A Piece of Peace....

This past weekend we had the pleasure of creating this cake for a 16th birthday. When the client came to us with the idea of peace signs, we weren't quite sure how we were going to do it. After looking online with the client for some ideas, the idea of the zebra stripes came about. Once it was completed, the client came to pick it up with her sister. They gasped when they saw it and said that it was perfect. That is why we do what we do...there is something so fufilling about knowing that our creation was part of someone's special day.
Happy Birthday Kiana! We hope that you loved the cake and it was exactly what you hoped for!
Now off to work on this weeks beach themed wedding cake! Have a wonderful week and happy baking:)

Toy Story Cake February 2011

Okay, I will say it...we rocked this cake. I don't want to come off conceited or anything but I really like how this turned. This was for Trevor, a little man turning 5. He loves Toy Story so we came up with this idea. The little green men were made from gumpaste but all the other figures were toys that were provided by the client. The best part of this cake was when our client picked it up and brought Trevor with her. His face lit up and he loved it! There is something so rewarding about seeing a client's face when they see their cake for the first time!

Well, that's it for now...but until next time God Bless and happy baking:)

Shower Cake September 2009

Like I said in my previous post, I am digging through the archives to share our cakes that we have done over the past 3 years. I love this cake....a lot. Mainly because it was for my sister's bridal shower and it fits her to a T.
My only sister got engaged in May of 2009 and I knew that when we did her bridal shower, we would be the ones doing her cake. Her wedding colors were hot pink, black and white, but for the shower, I wanted to tone it down, use the same color scheme but lighten it up some. My sister loves polka dots, pink, black, white and her soon to be husband. So we incorporated all of that into her cake. I love gerbera daisies, so those went on the cake as well, since the centerpieces were gerbera daisies.

This was the finished product and my sister loved it!! My aunt did an amazing job on the daisies and the whole cake just was perfect for my sister. Now, I am looking forward to doing a baby shower cake one day;)

Miss Maiyah's birthday Cake 2010

I have decided to start posting pics of the cakes that we have done over the years. So the first post goes to one of my favorite cakes that we have done.
This cake was my little girls 5th birthday cake. Sort of...you see Miss Maiyah does not like buttercream frosting. So after hours of making this cake for her party, I had to go back and make her a white cake with strawberries and "whupped cream". Her party was a garden theme and the decorations on the cake matched her plates and napkins perfectly. This cake was white cake with strawberries and also Almond Joy cake.  It is covered in buttercream and all the flowers, bees and ladybugs were made out of gumpaste. Thank you to my Aunt Mel who spent many hours (or days) making all the butterflies, bees and ladybugs! Miss Maiyah LOVED it!

Summer has begun!!!

Orders have been coming in. A few weeks ago we did a bridal shower cake and today we sent off our second bridal shower cake for the month.  Also, Serendipity Custom Cakes now has our own photographer!!! My sister, Leah Thompson has started her own photography business: Blessed Photography. Check her out on facebook, she is pretty good:)
Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and a wonderful summer:)

Summer is flying by....

This month has proved to be a busy month thus far. In fact, I am quickly learning that in our business it is feast or famine! We have booked 2 cake jobs, one which is a wedding cake, a potential first birthday cake and another possible wedding cake for the fall. This week alone, I have received quiet a few calls from potential clients that found us on Facebook. I love it! There is something so satisfying about knowing that this little cake business that began as a hobby is beginning to take off. God has been amazing in providing the right jobs at the right time. My father in law was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer two weeks before my kids summer break began. Thankfully, no cake jobs came in the last few month, and although I love to work, this is a much needed break that allows me to spend time with my kids and take care of the things that my father in law and husband are needing me to do right now. Our next job is August 20th, after the kids are back in school and my father in law finishes his fourth chemo treatment. Thank you God for sending the work when it is needed and providing the much needed breaks as well.
We are looking forward to fall quickly approaching and the new items that we will be rolling out. We are looking to do a flavor of the month, something that will coordinate with the season or something special about that month as well as a new product that we will be offering our clients.
We also have our own website that went live this week. I am excited to see the opportunities that this will bring Serendipity Custom Cakes. Check it out at http://www.wix.com/serendipitycustomcak/serendipity-custom-cakes
Let us know what you think!
So until next time, God bless and happy baking!

May 2011

This month has been an interesting month:) With everyone getting married this summer, we have done 2 bridal shower cakes this month! I LOVE doing bridal shower cakes. They are way less stress than a wedding cake but they can be just as elegant:)
Our first cake was at the beginning of the month. The bride is doing a royalty theme for her wedding. Her colors were royal blue, white and black. We did a daisy theme for the cake with white and blue gerbera daisies. The final result was simple and elegant. The bride loved it and everyone said that it tasted great.
The cake that we did last week was probably one of my favorite cakes to do thus far. Our client, Dana, called us and had some ideas of what she was wanting. She was a bridesmaid in her friends wedding and found Serendipity on the internet. She was a pleasure to work with. The theme was royalty again, but the colors were pinks (my personal favorite:)). The cake turned out fabulous and was EXACTLY what they were looking for. In fact, when Dana picked up the cake, she said it was even better then she was expected. I love it when we exceed our clients expectations.
Yesterday, I experimented in the kitchen a little. My aunt kept telling me about these cake truffles and I had seen cake pops at Starbucks. I had been interested in possibly making these. So yesterday in trying to figure out what in the world to make for the kiddos' baseball BBQ (which was cancelled due to rain, in JUNE, unbelievable, but I digress), I decided to try out my hand at cake pops. Let me just say, WOW! These little tasty treats are pretty phenomenal, and the wonderful thing is that they are so rich, that one is really enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. Now my head is spinning with different flavor combos: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with cinnamon, chocolate and peanut butter frosting dipped in chocolate, apple cake with white chocolate and cinnamon.....I feel flavor overload coming on...and I like it:)
So leave feedback friends, let me know what flavor combos you think would be amazing. Who knows, maybe in the future we will do a cake pop giveaway if your flavor gets picked.....
Have a blessed day and happy baking:)

New Year, New Possibilities

Now we are almost finished with the first month of 2011 and I am so excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. God has given us a needed break in work the last month, but February brings us a new client and a returning client.  I will be updating the blog and posting pictures of cakes as they are finished. Serendipity wishes all of our clients both past, present and future a very happy 2011.
